DPMI Class
Course
The Development Project Management Institute (DPMI) certificate program is a professional training that combines guided individual readings done prior to campus study, three weeks of intensive classroom instruction, and a follow-up reflection paper that is submitted three months after classes are completed. DPMI sessions occur over a three-week period with classes held Monday through Friday. Each module is taught by a current practitioner with extensive international development experience. The modules are intimately linked to contemporary development challenges. Participants will receive a Certificate of Completion from the Development Project Management Institute if they meet attendance requirements and submit the final written assignment.
Description of Modules
Module 1: Designing and Managing Development Projects
Participants will learn, through tool mastery, how to design and assess projects that foster sustainable development. Simulations and case study exercises will help participants become familiar with the approach to project development that is widely used in bilateral and multinational organizations including USAID, the World Bank and UNDP.
Module 2: Facilitating Participatory Development
Participants master tools and skills needed to effectively assume the roles of facilitator, trainer, and change agent. Local human resource development is an important component in every development project. The module focuses helping participants design and lead social mobilization activities. Topics covered include stakeholder engagement, facilitation tips and techniques, storytelling, and dealing with power differentials within the context of participatory development.
Module 3: Social Entrepreneurship and Strategic Partnering
Participants, working within a context of social entrepreneurship, become proficient in the use of tools and techniques to conduct an analysis of vision and mission; identify core competencies; and forge strategic partnerships to enhance organizational effectiveness. Innovative software applications are introduced to support a challenging simulation.
